Communities of Madison County
Located just 15 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Indiana, Madison County’s characteristics have something for everyone; from rural landscapes to small town life to the services and amenities of a hi-tech city.
Pendleton, in Southern Madison County has a historic-registered downtown as well as Falls Park, two blocks from downtown and featuring a small natural waterfall, charming gardens tended by an active garden club, and an amazing playground for the children to enjoy.
Alexandria, Indiana is literally “Small Town, USA” a moniker so fitting it’s been made official. Alexandria is the hometown of the Gaither Family, of gospel music fame, their Family Resource Center and state of the art recording studio.
Elwood is another of Madison County’s quaint small towns, yet via State Road 37 is only 20 minutes away from the bustle of Noblesville, one of the country’s fastest growing areas. Elwood has invested millions in improvements to roadways and streetscapes and in upgrades to the local municipal center and hospital.
Anderson, the county’s largest city, is home to Anderson University, the state’s fastest growing Ivy Tech campus, and a Purdue extension that is expanding offerings in conjunction with the Flagship Enterprise Center. The city is home to cultural amenities such as the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, the historic Paramount Theater, the Anderson Fine Arts Center, a community theater, Mounds State Park, and Hoosier Park Racing and Casino. Anderson’s downtown has recently undergone a full scale redevelopment which included the creation of the Town Centre Plaza, the site of a summer concert series. Children enjoy playing in the splash fountain and on quirky sculptural elements of the Town Centre. Recently, the city code of ordinances was amended to allow for sidewalk cafes, bringing people back outside of establishments to enjoy the atmosphere of downtown.
