ORESTES, Ind. (Aug. 5, 2010) – Red Gold Inc., a Madison County based manufacturer of tomato-based food products, announced today that it will expand its production operations here creating 41 new jobs by 2012.
The company, which produces canned tomatoes, ketchup, tomato juice and pasta sauces, among other tomato products, all in Indiana locations, invested more than $5.1 million in the construction of a new 23,000 square-foot facility at its current Orestes campus. The expansion includes a high-speed food processing line and automated food technology and distribution equipment. This investment is in addition to several other company-wide capital expenditures totaling more than $20 million this year alone.
“Indiana continues to be an affordable environment in which businesses like Red Gold can grow,” said Governor Mitch Daniels. “Red Gold has employed generations of Hoosiers and we’re glad they’ve chosen to expand here again.”
Red Gold will begin hiring additional processing technicians and advanced manufacturing employees this summer, and selective hiring will continue over the next 18 months while Red Gold seeks to fill some part time and summer positions in addition to the 41 new full-time positions. In total, Red Gold has more than 1,300 full-time employees, which includes the production facilities in Elwood, Geneva and Orestes in Indiana.
“This begins the next chapter of Red Gold’s aggressive growth strategy in fresh tomatoes, sauces and specialty tomato products. Red Gold is an industry leader and ripe for opportunity and continued growth,” said Tim Ingle, director of human resources at Red Gold.
The company recently commemorated the multimillion dollar expansion with a ribbon cutting ceremony with employees and members of the Reichart family, who founded the company. Red Gold produces canned tomatoes and tomato-based products for the retail, foodservice, private label and club channels of distribution. The Red Gold family of consumer brands includes Red Gold, Redpack, Tuttorosso and Sacramento.
“The town has a long relationship with the company and the founding Reichart family,” said John Shettle, president of the Orestes town council. “Red Gold has helped the town with projects from time to time, so the town is happy to help them continue to grow and create jobs in our community.”
According to latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau and Stats Indiana, more than 33,000 Hoosiers are employed in the food manufacturing industry.
